Cynthia Harcourt, an old high school classmate of Lucy's, appeared on I Love Lucy
in the Season 3 episode "Lucy is Envious". The part of Cynthia was played by Mary Jane Croft, who would later appear on the series in a recurring role as Betty Ramsey in five episodes, and as Evelyn Bigsby in the Season 5 episode "Return Home from Europe". The role was that of a high-society dame, a character Croft had perfected on many shows over the years.

In the episode "Lucy is Envious", Cynthia, who has apparently done very well for herself since her high school days with Lucy, now heads up a charitable drive for their alma mater.
She contacts Lucy for a donation, and Lucy, envious of Cynthia's prosperity, attempts to impress her old classmate by exaggerating her wealth and status. Soon Lucy and Ethel both thinking that they were donating $5.00 each, then find themselves in debt to Cynthia, owing her five hundred dollars each, the amount which Cynthia, thinking Lucy and Ethel are both very wealthy, puts them down for! In desperation, Lucy and Ethel have to take stunt jobs as "women from Mars" to promote a new movie!
